    Protected Rabi oscillation induced by natural interactions among physical qubits

    For a system composed of nine qubits, we show that natural interactions among the qubits induce the time evolution that can be regarded, at discrete times, as the Rabi oscillation of a logical qubit. Neither fine tuning of the parameters nor switching of the interactions is necessary. Although straightforward application of quantum error correction fails, we propose a protocol by which the logical Rabi oscillation is protected against all single-qubit errors. The present method thus opens a simple and realistic way of protecting the unitary time evolution against noise.Comment: In this revised manuscript, new sections V, VI, VII and new appendices A, B, C have been added to give detailed discussions. 13 pages, 4 figure

    A search for cyclotron resonance features with INTEGRAL

    We present an INTEGRAL observation of the Cen-Crux region in order to search the electron cyclotron resonance scattering features from the X-ray binary pulsars. During the AO1 200ks observation, we clearly detected 4 bright X-ray binaries, 1 Seyfert Galaxy, and 4 new sources in the field of view. Especially from GX301-2, the cyclotron resonance feature is detected at about 37 keV, and width of 3--4 keV. In addition, the depth of the resonance feature strongly depends on the X-ray luminosity. This is the first detection of luminosity dependence of the resonance depth. The cyclotron resonance feature is marginally detected from 1E1145.1-6141.     Suzaku Reveals Helium-burning Products in the X-ray Emitting Planetary Nebula BD+303639

    BD+303639, the brightest planetary nebula at X-ray energies, was observed with Suzaku, an X-ray observatory launched on 2005 July 10. Using the X-ray Imaging Spectrometer, the K-lines from C VI, O VII, and O VIII were resolved for the first time, and C/O, N/O, and Ne/O abundance ratios determined. The C/O and Ne/O abundance ratios exceed the solar value by a factor of at least 30 and 5, respectively. These results indicate that the X-rays are emitted mainly by helium shell-burning products.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal Letter

    Dissertação de mestrado em Psicologia Clínica e da Saúde (Psicopatologia e Psicoterapias Dinâmicas), apresentada à Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação da Universidade de CoimbraA presente investigação visa explorar múltiplas variáveis (sociodemográficas, clínicas e satisfação com o suporte social) na relação com o bonding materno. O nosso principal objetivo foi perceber quais as diferenças entre as mães adultas e as mães adolescentes relativamente à forma como se vinculam (bonding) ao seu bebé, para isso procedemos às entrevistas de 57 mães, em que 29 são mães adultas e 28 são mães adolescentes. Consoante os nossos resultados, pudemos inferir que as mães adolescentes apresentam valores de bonding inferiores aos valores das mães adultas. Quando comparamos o bonding com o suporte social também verificamos que as mães adolescentes apresentam valores de perceção do suporte social inferiores aos valores das mães adultas. Deste modo, a relação mãe-bebé vai sendo fortalecida consoante aumenta a idade das mães e a perceção que as mesmas têm em relação ao suporte social.The present investigation pretends to explore multiple variables (sociodemographic, clinic, and satisfaction with social support) and its relation to maternal bonding. Our main goal was to understand which are the differences between adult mothers and teenage mothers as how they are bond to their baby. We interviewed 57 mothers, in which 29 are adult mothers and 28 are adolescent mothers. From our results, we infer that teenage mothers have lower values than adult mothers on bonding. When we compare bonding with social support we also found that teenage mothers have lower values of social support perception relatively to adult mothers. We also conclude that mother-baby relationship and social support perception will be strengthened as mothers grow older

    Suzaku Observations of Active Galactic Nuclei Detected in the Swift/BAT Survey: Discovery of "New Type" of Buried Supermassive Black Holes

    We present the Suzaku broad band observations of two AGNs detected by the Swift/BAT hard X-ray (>15 keV) survey that did not have previous X-ray data, Swift J0601.9-8636 and Swift J0138.6-4001. The Suzaku spectra reveals in both objects a heavily absorbed power law component with a column density of NH =~ 10^{23.5-24} cm^{-2} that dominates above 10 keV, and an intense reflection component with a solid angle >~ 2π2\pi from a cold, optically thick medium. We find that these AGNs have an extremely small fraction of scattered light from the nucleus, <~ 0.5% with respect to the intrinsic power law component. This indicates that they are buried in a very geometrically-thick torus with a small opening angle and/or have unusually small amount of gas responsible for scattering. In the former case, the geometry of Swift J0601.9-8636 should be nearly face-on as inferred from the small absorption for the reflection component. The discovery of two such objects in this small sample implies that there must be a significant number of yet unrecognized, very Compton thick AGNs viewed at larger inclination angles in the local universe, which are difficult to detect even in the currently most sensitive optical or hard X-ray surveys.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ Lette
